Vintage brass match holder or ink well topped with a cherub, similar to other examples with patent numbers dating to the Victorian period (see eBay)
Has an outer dish and a deeper inner well to hold ink, upright, unburnt matches, or to extinguish lit ones, or whatever you want!
The cherub is missing both of its hands, or at least one. (I think this may be on purpose, and part of how it was molded to look)
I haven't cleaned the piece, since I'm not sure who likes patina on their brass or not
There is some charred residue on it, which should come clean
The bottom has some kind thin, rectangular of foam or wooden piece adhered to it, perhaps to keep it off the table surface somewhat
I received this from a friend, whose parents were avid antique collectors
