History of the First Division

World War, 1917-1919

The book details the history of the U.S. Army's 1st Infantry Division, often called the "Big Red One" for its shoulder patch.

The division was the first permanent division in the regular Army organized for duty on the Western Front in World War I.

The text on the cover is a quote attributed to General John J. Pershing, Commander-in-Chief of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF), who noted the division's "special pride of service and a high state of morale never broken by hardship nor battle".

The 1st Division played a significant role in several key battles during WWI, including the first major American victory at Cantigny.

Book is in fantastic condition considering its age. Slight markings on front cover and bottom pages. These markings do not affect the book.
