Oil paintings on black velvet were very iconic to the midcentury era during the 1960's and 1970's. Often sold at art fairs or on a street corner or parking lot from the back of a truck, they were considered kitsch art, but have more become desirable over time. This painting was produced in Mexico and depicts a landscape scene of mountains, waterfall, and cabin. The color is very vibrant against the black velvet.
