2025/3/16 (Sun) Coincidentally, this day marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Mr. Kuniyoshi Kaneko.
Kuniyoshi Kaneko (born 1936, died 2015) was a painter and illustrator from Saitama Prefecture. He entered the Department of Design at Nihon University College of Art in 1955, and while in school, he studied under stage artist Motohiro Nagasaka. In 1957, he participated in the young artists' group "Twenty-Day Society" and was also involved in the production of stage art. After graduating from university, he worked for a graphic design company while working on illustrations and fashion paintings, and began oil painting on his own from around 1964. In 1965, he met Tatsuhiko Shibusawa and deepened his awareness as a painter, and the following year he was in charge of the illustrations for "Story of O." In 1967, he held his first solo exhibition "Blooming Maidens" at the Aoki Gallery, and in 1974, he also illustrated Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland." He is known for his unique style of painting, which exudes innocence and eroticism, and depicted a fantastic and aesthetic world view.
